For Tim it started back in 1987, researching and developing legionella bacteria control procedures for controlling the reasonably foreseeable risks to health from traditional showering methods. In 1997, Steve joined forces with Tim to launch the SafePurge self-purging legionella control procedure and showers, later advocated by the Health & Safety Executive and featuring in their training videos - filmed at Holiday Inn and the Royal Liverpool University Teaching Hospitals. During large scale trials, SafePurge has been shown to outperform other methods of controlling legionella - leading to military national roll out programs, amongst other notable successes along the way. However, this improved engineering approach does increase the price point of showering installations, which restrains wider accessibility, especially for householders.

Having waited three decades for independent studies of household showers, studies published found a significant proportion of household showers contaminated with legionella bacteria - confirming our earlier findings in the 1980’s. Under Health & Safety Law for the workplace, contaminated showers would require corrective legionella control measures to be undertaken, however, the widespread misconception that household showers pose a low risk to health continues. Studies published in 2017 and 2019 provided the green light necessary for developing a new affordable engineering approach for healthier household showering.
